Frosting, Or Icing

There's been some discussion about what makes frosting or icing. We really get into it in this week's podcast. But the moral of the story is that dictionaries don't distinguish between them, and the difference is mostly regional, but more people on the internet say buttercream frosting, and more people say royal icing than vice versa. That aside, ingredients!

Again, kind of absurdly simple. Four tablespoons butter, 2 cups of confectioner's sugar, 4 tablespoons of chocolate powder, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and some milk.

Let the butter warm up, cut it into cubes and start to cream it in a stand mixer.

Combine the confectioner's sugar with the chocolate powder.

Slowly add the sugar/chocolate mixture to the butter in the stand mixer, continuing to beat. Add the vanilla.

If it starts to get too thick, you can add a little cream or milk. I think I used about 2 tablespoons, all in all.

Once it's all combined, it should look something like this.

transfer it to a pastry bag, or a plastic bag with the corner cut off, and pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes you just made.

Ingredients:

4 tablespoons butter

2 cups confectioner's sugar

4 tablespoons chocolate powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

a few tablespoons of cream or milk

Procedure:

1. Let the butter rise to room temperature, cut into cubes and cream.

2. Combines the sugar and chocolate powder

3. Slowly beat in the sugar/chocolate mixture. Add the vanilla.

4. Add a little milk or cream if needed to loosen frosting.

5. Pipe on to your favorite dessert.
